Patricia A. Koval

Chair

Patricia A. Koval is a corporate director and lawyer based in Toronto, Ontario. She is a retired Senior Partner of Torys LLP, where she specialized in corporate finance, mergers and acquisitions, and corporate governance. Among other things, Pat co-founded and co-chaired Torys India Practice Group, and she led the legal teams for a number of Indian companies that undertook major acquisitions and investments into Canada, including some at multi-billion dollar levels. She continues to be a promoter of Canada-India business through her long-time (almost 15 year involvement) with the Council, including her position as Chair since 2016 and frequent participation as a panellist in Council forums.

Pat’s corporate directorships span a number of industries. She is a Director and member of both the Audit Committee and Governance Committee of Trans Mountain Corporation, which operates, and is currently undertaking the mega-expansion of, the pipeline in western Canada. She is a Director and Markets Committee member of Ontario’s Independent Electricity System Operator, which operates Ontario’s electricity system and wholesale markets. She is also a director of Delterra Inc., a major Canadian construction company, as well as a number of other operating companies within the Tridel Group.

In addition to her corporate directorships, Pat is an appointed member of the Ontario Government’s Advisory Panel on Climate Change. She is the Chairman of the Canadian Performance Reporting Board of CPA Canada, and the Chairman of the Board of Toronto and Region Conservation Foundation (which works with Toronto and Region Conservation Authority). She also serves on the GTA Chapter Executive Board of the Institute of Corporate Directors (ICD) and is a director or advisory committee member of a number of non-profit organizations in Canada and the US, many of which undertake conservation work in India.

Pat taught courses in mergers and acquisitions to law students and business executives for over 15 years as an Adjunct Professor at University of Toronto. She graduated from the joint MBA/J.D. program at Schulich School of Business and Osgoode Hall Law School in Toronto, Canada, after completing an Hons BA (Economics).
